So, I went in this morning for my 3 hr glucose test. The nurse said not to eat or drink anything last night. I did not. But I did have a glass of water this morning. When I told the nurse this, she said they wouldn't be able to test me and I would have to come back tomorrow.
Everyone I spoke with regarding drinking water said they were allowed. The nurse said even a small amount of water would raise my glucose levels too much. Is this true? Is a small amount of water enough to greatly affect my test results? I just don't know if I believe that.

I am simply looking for an answer, not a judgement or rudeness. So do not be so rude and tell me that I "need to listen". I am not a child. Obviously I woudn't go in for testing in the first place if I didn't care. I just want to know if water raises glucose, that's all. So, answers are welcomed from everyone who isn't perfect. Thanks

I went for my one hour and three hour glucose test and was able to drink all the water I wanted. Just no food 12 hours before the test.

I have never heard of that.... I would give your doc a call and let him know.

Well, let's put it this way. I have been told both by the same lab. I was told not to drink anything, and when I got to the lab, they couldn't do the test because I was so dehydrated they couldn't find a vein. The person who did my test said I should have had some water to keep my veins up. I don't see how water can raise glucose levels as there IS NO glucose in water.

I dont think water will raise your glucose levels enough to throw a test off...sounds strange.

Id call your doctor.

My lab told me to drink water. It helps "plump" up your veins so they can get the blood out better. I just did my test last week.
