For months now I have been baffled about the phenomenon surrounding Mike Vick and the Dog Fighting case. The media frenzy around all of it is ridiculous. What baffled me even more is Animal Lovers going after a quick buck. T-shirts, chew toys, chewed up football cards on Ebay all to "benefit" the Humane Society.

The personification of pets in America is absurd. Dogs and Cats are eaten in other countries, here they are worshipped. 16,000 dogs die each year in dog fights. Congrats, you saved 40 some pit bulls. I'm sure they will make good wholesome family pets. The Humane society can sleep well at night knowing they got more funding off the deaths of those dogs and Mike Vick's name. I'm sure some of the ebay auction money didnt even make it to a humane society.

The NFL has convicted criminals all over the place. Men have killed and still play the game and I hope they welcome Vick back the same way they did with those players.

Thoughts?

Where I live in the Caribbean dog fighting is a cultural thing (as well as fighting chickens). I don't believe it is right, but I also don't believe that a man should loose his career and lively hood over it. He was a football player, not the president of the humane society. I think the whole thing was blown out of proportion by the media. Let it go people, he will do his time, pay his fine then he should be free and clear to peruse any career he wishes.

You would not like mine. I beleive people convicted of dog fighting should have the goverment take away all thier stuff and put it up for sale and give the money to the ASPCA. Did you know that the world of sog fighting and the world of drug dealing go hand in hand. Street thugs take what at one time the most popular family dog in this country and abuse and torture them into monster making them a threat bto everyone. Have you seen a dog fihgt do you know what gose on. As a person that at one time help break up dog fighting rings I know and its not pretty. Hope Vick never gets any thing back

Too bad that Vick made such a seriously dumb choice... He has lost millions over it and probably his NFL career. He's already on the older side and probably won't get much football practice while in the slammer... He may also be facing more prision time if the State files against him which I think they probably will.

High profile people doing bad things will pay for their wrongs maybe not as much as you and me but they will pay!!!
if you or me was arrested for involvment of Dog fighting most state would give you 5 years in jail or prison! plus a fine of it was 8 dogs killed maybe 800,000.00 fine too!
23 months isn't that much... he should be written off by NFL, indefinantly not be rehired by anyone for say 5 years! after jail!
