Easy, just did both places and I'm in my 20's on a cheaper budget.

Amsterdam - 25 Euro a day (32 bucks)
Germany - 20 Euro a day (27 bucks)

Have fun, both are awesome!

If you buy food from the supermarket and have access to a kitchen to cook or a microwave you can get by on around 7 EUR per day.

No eating out on this budget, since meals in a restaurant cost at least 10 EUR and breakfast at a cafe (coffee plus some pastry) is around 5 EUR. A visit to McD's will be 3-5 EUR.

Compared to that a can of soup or a frozen dish from the supermarket that you only need to heat is around 1-3 EUR. Often these cans or dishes have enough for 2 people, so you can eat twice from them if you are alone. Bread, cheese, meat cuts and joghurt will together set you back around 4 EUR and will last you 2-3 days. Bring some silverware, it can be a lifesaver.

Eating out cheap in Amsterdam can be €5 at a 'snackbar' the local kind of fast food place. (Febo is one chain.)
For €10 you can fill your tummy in many more places. Like pizza or Shoarma (Kebab.)
For €25 you can have a pretty good dinner in a small restaurant. (Zeedijk or the side streets of Leidseplein.) But look at the menu on the door or window before going in.

Lunch is often cheaper than dinner, so if you are on a budget, try to eat out for lunch and get bread and toppings in a supermarket and make sandwiches for dinner.

Prices in bigger towns in Germany are comparable, but in smaller towns you will have less choice, so you might either be stuck with just the cheapest or the more expensive places.

As suggested, if you can cook, going to a supermarket and get dinner there will be even cheaper.
But do budget at least one dinner out, as it does make your trip a real holiday.
