there's only a few things this could be, and the best way to find out fast is to have a load test done on your charging system.
this will tell if the battery is up to the job as you can have 12volts but not enough amps, and it will tell you if the alternator is working the way it should as the regulator may be slow to open or up the amps. and yes grounds can cause this as well but again a load test will tell if every thing else is working
before i would just go buy a battery i would have it check, just be cause its dead don't mean its bad, it may just need and deep charge.
and if you going to go on and buy one just make sure you get the right size as in cold cranking amps and total amps, this is one time that bigger is better as in to small and you'll put a load on the battery that it cant take for long.
i would look in your phone book for battery shops that sale rebuilt battery's, i have been using rebuilt battery's here at my shop for over 5 years now and have only had two bad ones out of 50 or so, and they did replace em free, and a rebuilt battery will cost you about 1/2 of a new one or even less, and they do look new, but they are rebuilt.

Buy a Toyota Camry. Chevy cars are becomming more and more problematic as the years go by, and apparently Chevy don't car because they keep building them like crap. I own a Chevy Cobalt, with apparently a transmission made in China out of cheap plastic and aluminum cause it didn't make it past 17,000 miles before the syncros went out in it. My 89 Mazda B2600i pickup had 223,468 miles on it when I traded it in, that with the original transmission, original clutch, minus the clutch master cylinder which was replaced at 221,543 miles.
Sounds like your car has some wiring issues, namely check for loose wire connections, loose fuses, and possibly a bad brake light switch.

You could have a short in one of your break light wires.
You could have loose wiring under the dash that is coming in contact physically with the break pedal.
I think this is one for the Chev garage to figure out.

I would put my money on a bad ground at the battery or where it is grounded to the frame or engine . If this doesn`t solve the problem i would follow toads advice and vote for him .

Maybe a weak battery, bad connection to the battery, bad connection to ground, or less likely, a weak alternator.

Do you have a trailer hitch with wiring by any chance?
If you do, thats probably where the problem is. If not you'll have to see a good auto mechanic.
