I have had a solid glass winebottle stopper made at a craftfair and it is to big,it is a present so would like to have a go at making it fit.

If it's just a little too big, you can sand it down with wet & dry paper (it will wear out very quickly). Add a drop of oil before you start grinding. To shift a greater quantity, use emery cloth.

When making a stopper fit a bottle, it's usual to add some grinding paste and grind one against the other. You can buy the paste at car accessory shops and it usually comes in a tin with coarse at one end and fine at the other.

Yes you can, it takes time though.

Use wet and dry sandpaper/glass paper.
It's the same method used to get scratches out of things like watch faces.

take it to glass shop they will have a wet belt sander, this will be safest way for protection of you item. if you try it you may end up creating to much heat and chipping or cracking.

no problem either use a belt or an emery wheel ..or take it to a glass shop and they will soon reduce it
