Clams are very low in mercury... and a clam soup doesn't contain many clams anyway. You're fine. You can have 2 full servings of clams a week (or any low in mercury food item, such as chunk light tuna)... and believe me, that bowl of soup didn't have anywhere near a full serving.

Yes, it is fine :-) Clam Chowder is one of my favorites, and I am 15 weeks.

You're just not supposed to exceed 12 ounces of clams in a week, but in Clam Chowder, there just isn't that much.

Shellfish in general is okay, as long as it is well-cooked.

Clam chowder is fine everyonce in a while...dont make a daily habit of it. lIke any fish or shell fish, there are risks and uncertainties.

Seems like the medical community changes its mind daily on how often you can eat seafoods safely.

I think you'll be fine...I'm 32 weeks pregnant and I love seafood. I have been eating it during my pregnancy, they said as long as you keep the seafood to a minimum like once a week (which is what I've been doing) Also you're doctor should have given you a list of certain fishes that you should avoid. The only I can think of right now is swordfish. Also canned tuna should be limited to no more than once a week. Hope this helps!

It won't harm a thing. Most doctors will tell you that things like that in extreme moderation are fine. That's what I was told about tuna, but I loved it so much that I often ate it everyday for lunch (the doc said only once a week. oops). All 3 of my children are perfectly healthy. No need to worry your pretty little head about it. Good luck on the rest of your pregnancy and congrats!

Heh???

Unless you or the child has a shellfish allergy, no.

That I am aware of...and admittedly I operate under two handicaps, one, I'm not biologically capable of conceiving and bearing a child, and two, I'm not a dietician...no normal food products have a harmful effect on a foetus

Good luck, and here's hoping you have an uneventful pregnancy!

Your baby will be fine.

Seafood is okay while pregnant as long as it is in moderation...and the true dangers come from eating the larger fish because they contain more mercury.
