Please- no suggestions about where to buy one (I am making this about 6' square, it simply has to be custom). Please, no suggestions about knitting a felted square, or making a fabric-covered ribbon board (this is not for a 6 year old girl's bedroom). Please, no suggestions about a decorative wine cork thingy- this is not for kitchen decor. I specifically want to use cork, so please no suggestions about using fuzzboard or steel and magnets, or whatever. I would appreciate some serious answers here from crafty/woodworking people! We do have a decent amount of tools in our home, although nothing large and permanent like a table saw or jigsaw! Thank you!

Again, I would like step-by-step instructions. I know that you can buy self-stick 12x12 cork tiles. Not helpful. "Just make a frame and get a backing"= not helpful because it doesn't answer the question H O W? There are businesses that do nothing but framing- why? There must be more to making a frame than just "making a frame"- you know, like instructions. What do I use for backing? How do I affix it to the frame? Or do I only attach it to the cork? Etc etc...

You can purchase 12" x 12" cork tiles. They usually come with a sticky peel of back or double stick tape. You can just stick them directly to a wall or purchase molding to make a frame and a piece of plywood or masonite and make a back panel. Sticking directly to a wall is not a great idea if you decide to remodel in the future. You can find these tiles on-line or at most home centers and larger hardware stores.

As already suggested, you can get cork square tiles...theyre about 12" square, and you can cut them with a utility knife. Get different colored tiles, and you can make a pattern with them.
You can alos buy cork in a roll...its usually about 2ft wide.
I like to glue my cork to corrugated cardboard, just to give the pins more room to stick, hehe... And then glue or staple the whole thing to some luan (1/8inch or 1/4 inch depending on the frame)
Use contact adhesive to glue the cork to the backer.
For the frame, you can make your own stock, buy moulding, or a pre-made frame - you might even find someone with a small wood shop nearby who could make one for you.
Since you didnt bother to mention just what tools you DO have, or what materials you want to make this out of... its difficult to give 'step by step' instructions - however, if you'd like to email me, I'll be happy to help walk you thru it.

If you are willing to rent a weighted roller, then there are plenty of free-online-instructions form cork retailers (the kind that sell sheets for flooring and soundproofing).

Short of peeling the bark off a WHOLE lot of trees and processing it from scratch...
Use cork tiles. My parents did so in my room many, many moons ago when I was in grade school. Covered one wall from about 1m off the ground to the ceiling, and from one wall to the other (lengthwise) on the shorter of the two long walls.
Use the included instructions. :D
Oh, easiest way to do it is to apply glue to the wall, wait till it dries to tacky, them begin applying the tiles, which you have also glued.
Any *good* home store (Home Hardware, Rona/Revy, Home Depot, etc) should be able to help you out!

you can buy a cork board with a 1/2 in. gray cardboard backing , its called homosote...cut your wood frame to length and width to go around it... cut a 1/2 in. rabbit on the back side of your frame boards to fit the board in...miter the corners and glue...i just made one for my granddaughter...
