- 4x - y = 2
4x + 3y = - 12-----ADD

2y = - 10
y = - 5

4x - 5 = - 2
4x = 3
x = 3/4

x = 3/4 , y = - 5

4x + y = -2
4x + 3y = -12

Solve a simple system of equations like this by eliminating a variable. We can subtract the second equation from the first to eliminate 4x:

-2y = 10
So y = -5

Plugging this in the first equation,
4x + (-5) = -2
So x = 3/4
