4x+y=-2 4x+3y=-12,
4x + -4x +y + -3Y = 10
-2Y=-10
y=5

4x + y = -12
4x + 3y= -12

multiply the top by a negetive as follows
-(4x + y=-2)-------> -4x - y = 2
4x +3y = -12------> 4x + 3y = -12

use process of elimination
2y = -10
y= -5

plug the y into one of the equations and solve

4x + -5 = -2
4x = 3
x = 3/4

hope that helps

4x + y = -2
4x + 3y = -12
*subtract to cancel out x and look for y...*

-3y = -10
3y = 10
y = (10/3)

look for x by substituting y wtih the value you got.

4x + y = -2
4x + (10/3) = -2
4x = -2 - (10/3)
4x = -5.33333
4x = -5.3
*divide both sides by 4 to have only x at the left side*
x = (5.3 / 4)
x = -1.33333
x = -1.3

*check*
4x + y = -2
4 (-1.3) + (3.3333) = -2
-5.3332 + 3.33333 = -2
-1.999999 = -2
*round off*
-2 = -2

my ten points ok? ; )

y = -4x - 2
y = (-12-4x)/3
-4x - 2 = (-12-4x)/3
12x + 6 = 4x + 12
8x = 6
x = 3/4

y = -4(3/4) - 2
y = -3 - 2
y = -5

Check: 4(3/4) + 3(-5) = -12
3 -15 = -12
-12 = -12
There we go!.
