What is the difference between depression and just feeling REALLY crappy? I am a seventeen and in High school. I'm male. I am in special classes. One of the case workers which visit quite often in here, made the suggestion that he would "like to see me on some kind of medication for depression". Now , I do have some times where i can get really "depressed", but it's not for very long. You see, i don't have many friends and i sometimes feel like my family doesn't care for me. But if i use reason, I always stop my negative thinking. Sometimes it's harder than others. I am also a bit illiterate when it comes to dealing with people. Hence the special classes. The main reason i fell crappy sometimes is because of the strees thst i put up with at school and home. But i think that if i had the right motivation and possibly a supportive friend who believed in me, i could overcome my crappy feelings. I'm altogether a cheery and friendly guy. Maybe someone could give me some advice?

I think depression is an unconscious behavior...if someone asked you if you were depressed, you'd say no, because you don't realize you are..Feeling crappy, is like you...you know you feel bad, and God Love you, you know why, but it doesn't make you feel any better...
Join a church group or something, where people don't judge you, and make a friend that will listen and share your life..

There is a difference. If you are depressed, you know it's more than feeling bad. When it comes to depression, even at 17 you can make your own decisions about medication. I believe all you really need is a supportive friend. Are you in these special classes because of ASD? There is support online.

Does your "really crappy" state ever last for more than 2 weeks? Do you have trouble carrying out daily activites?

You seem to know yourself pretty well, a great way to get out of a slump is to be active. Join in activites after school and try to make friends. Social and emotional support in life is always needed. It sounds like you don't like the idea of medication, the best thing is to find ways to keep yourslef productive and happy.
Focus on your interests and hobbies and find things that you like to do.

typically... case workers aren't educated enough to make a suggestion about if you should have medication or not. That is not their place. If they think you "might" need medication it is their role to get you testing to see.. nothing more. And as such this person has overstepped their bounds. If they suggest you see someone to SEE if you have depression.. that's fine.. humor them and find out. But ignore that statement from your caseworker as it was stated here, as it seems to be bothering you and is of no real importance.

Drugs and white coats may help you more than you think. You continue to obsess about one incident in particular. A therapist can help you move past that incident and help you move toward a happier future. Don't knock it 'til you try it. Give the drugs & the Docs a chance. If they haven't helped in three months, you might be right, but at least give them a chance.

i personally have a differnt view about depression!
it's all in your head!
if you want to be happy then pick to be happy and think positively!

that's only because i was depressed ( supper sad) what ever words you want to use!
took me 3 years to change how i looked at things and to have faith in myself

and personally it's hard! but worth it! now my goals myself and people who I PICK to be in my life are great to be around!
