Here is a quote from Pullman, "My books are about killing God". He also said that he is trying to "undermine the basis of Christian belief."

This is a guy that is writing children's books and he is trying to destroy their faith before it begins.

Why Christians? Why not Islam?

This is motivation for we Christians to strengthen our faith and look up to God more. I read the books even though I was upset, and I think it's okay to read the books just as long as you don't follow in the same thinking. Pullman will either wake up sometime or go to Hell (literally). And I agree with you, he's trying to stop children from believing in God. This is also a warning to Christian parents to educate their children better about God.

Why not Christianity? Or some religion with theistic aspects?
Did you object against Narnia because it was also too propagandist, (but in favour of Christianity)?

Anyway the counterforce in The Golden Compass etc. is hardly materialistic atheism... More Wiccan, in some respects.

If you want a really good thought-prooking book that has (at least a version of) Islam as the "bad guy" Then try
"Raising the Stones" by Sheri Tepper:
A future society, which in it's mainstream is relatively happy with religion as a cultural thing, has to face the possibilty of one particular religion being "true", its god very much present and active.
Meanwhile several other branches of the society wrestle with their own understandings, with a key tension arising: if you believe in religious tolerance, does that mean you have to tolerate even an intolerant religion?

But an allegory or other tale can be made to point up any moral or conclusion you wish. That's the strength and the weakness of storytelling.
The question of whether one should be a Christian or a Muslim or..? Is not best tackled through this medium.

I've often wondered why anyone would want to choose the darkness over the Light. If Pullman or anyone else killed God, even in just peoples minds, imagine what kind of world we would be left with, and what better way to accomplish that than to pollute the young and impressionable mind.

Why Christians and not Islam? Maybe, for some reason, Christianity is a threat to them. Maybe for some demented reason(s), destroying Christianity would eliminate any doubt about their own beliefs; or maybe they want to justify their own means by simply eliminating the competition. One of our Commandants says, "Thou shall not kill." That which is good for the many will always be a target for evil.

In contrast, I just completed reading a great new novel. It clearly defines the difference between the Light and the darkness, good and evil, and becomes the family friendly alternative. For a wonderfully written, animated experience you might want to visit www.littluns.net to check out this new book, "Littluns, AND THE BOOK OF DARKNESS." The story with color paintings make you feel like you’re watching a movie while you read this gem of a find. It's a different reading experience for the entire family. The publisher notes that recommended reading is for 12 years of age and above, presumably because of its deep theme.

In this ever increasing world of chaos, it's good to know that there is a book like this out there that the entire family can embrace.

I won an digital mail correct to the action picture popping out in time for the Christmas season this twelve months, that secure that hyperlink. Scopes is oftentimes stable, so i might evaluate it. Philip Pullman thinks The Chronicles of Narnia are undesirable for little ones and that C.S. Lewis exchange into the main threatening of all English writers?!? i do no longer care how good the tale, if that is an attack on Christianity and that is approximately struggling with God, i want no component of it. My advice to you, because of the fact you have already given your son those books: study it with him and communicate the recommendations being provided. in case you prefer to pass further, once you study this sequence together, study The Chronicles of Narnia sequence with him, too. Then communicate the recommendations provided in C.S. Lewis' books with him. this type you basically isn't depriving him of analyzing books he's regarded forward to analyzing, yet you have the skill to tutor him what you have faith to be good and incorrect and clarify any faults you discover. historic past is replete with adult men who use the very skills God has given them to combat Him. They have not gained yet; nor will they! i does no longer situation approximately it, if I have been you. God is easily greater desirable than a e book....even a chain or a action picture! permit me emphasize: study IT WITH HIM!!! BTW: I basically remembered something. Years in the past I study that Voltaire mentioned that for the duration of one hundred years the Bible could be extinct. A one hundred years later, the main important Bible publishing employer interior the international exchange into being run from what exchange into as quickly as Voltaire's property. communicate correct to the final snigger... BTW2: As a Christian, i don't have a situation with the Harry Potter sequence. I in user-friendly terms have a situation with books that push an anti-Christ theology.

Why Christians? Because Christianity is the dominant religion in the world.

Because it was in response to the Narnia series, which he felt insulted by. So he wrote a trilogy to "counteract it".

It is possible to argue the other side of it with Christian books. Why destroy young children's lives by indoctrinating them into a personality cult that has no personality?
