She keeps asking me, "Mom what did you get me for Christmas?" She's 8 years old and recently found out about Santa not being so true. She is really getting on my nerves, asking me the same question about what did I buy her, where did I hide her presents, or what does the letter of one present start with. How can I tell her to back off and wait till Christmas so she would stop asking me? I've been saying wait till Christmas and you will see. Thanks

Ignore her!! By reacting, you're only encourage her to keep pestering you. By reacting, your INTERacting which is re-inforcing the negative behaviour. Not much different than training a puppy, really.

At 8 she may not even realize her behavior is improper. Sit her down and explain that it is bad manners to keep asking the question, that Christmas gifts are to be a surprise. Sometimes we forget to see the world through a child's eyes and we assume they understand the rules of the adult world when they really don't.
After you gently explain, if she still pesters you, remind her she is displaying bad manners and that if she continues doing so, some appropriate punishment will be put into play.
But mom, try to remember how excited you were as a child at Christmas and exercise a lot of loving patience.

You must mentally empower yourself and remember that YOU are the parent and YOU are the adult. And SHE is supposed to obey you when you tell her to stop asking.
Sit down and explain to her that Santa is a symbol of gift-giving and that Christmas is also about Jesus. Tell her that it is very important to wait for Christmas before opening presents so that holiday is celebrated the right way.
Put your foot down and ask her to not ask about it again.
If she does, I would give her a time out in a corner and remind her about how important it is to mind her parents.
Sorry if it sounds mean but you can't let your kids run over you at the age of eight. What about when they are eighteen?
Now is a good time to start setting boundaries and limits and letting your child now that what you say, goes.

Our daughter did the same thing last year. I got fed up one mornng and answered her question with "I got you nothing if you keep this up."

She was smart enough to back off.

tell her that each time she asks, then one of her presents gets taken away, or if she has siblings, that they get one more, or one of hers. *shrugs* kinda harsh if she believes you, but she won't keep asking. Don't actaully do it though... not unless she's being super horrible, then all bets are off.

"Your gifts are safe and waiting to surprise you. Piss me off with more questions like this and they will be returned. Clear enough?"
