So what, in your opinion, is that magical, wonderful gift that keeps on giving?

It can be real, some made-up gadget, an idea or concept, whatever.

Does she ever ask if the children need anything before she buys the gifts? If she does, start giving her ideas that are not religious such as clothing or a special toy. If she does not ask maybe you could put an idea list in the invitation for the party.Such as John really is into transformers and wrestling this year if you need a gift idea. Another idea..............and as a mother of 4, whose first child is going to college might be to ask for a savings bond so that your children may use the money for college. If you do not want to single her out, ask the entire family if they might consider it. Just explain your children have enough material items and could use the savings for college. This may appeal to her religious side as she will like them not wanting or getting too much material items. If you cash the bonds in early you lose nothing. They will always be worth what they paid for them. Good Luck..........God is good.

The first gift that keeps on giving is LOVE ... which I 'give' to my husband every day, and which he 'gives' to me every day. This year, for Christmas, my husband got me everything I asked for, but is getting me one gift I would NEVER ask for ... an e-Book. He's getting this for me because I read an average of a book a day, and I don't like to 'borrow' books ... and I hate to 'clean books' out and we now own over 5000 books. IF this 'eBook' works out, I may someday have ALL of the books I read in 'electronic storage' and can simply carry my eBook everywhere. Another good thing with this book is that I'll get the 'first 100 books' FREE. That's almost six months of books free. What is really impressive about this 'gift' though is that my husband is NOT a 'reader' (he reads magazines and about 6 'books' a year) but he 'thinks about me' and loves me enough to see the 'good' in this gift before I did. As for my 'gifts' to him ... so far, I've bought him only socks, underwear, and one pair of 'pajamas' (a tee shirt and a zipper hoodie from one store, a pair of matching knit pants from another store), and I'll be getting him a 'sweater' that HE LIKES ... not plain, not striped, but COLORFUL with a 'fancy pattern' (it's EXTREMELY difficult to find sweaters he likes, but I've found three ... but must 'test' to be sure he can wear them all because they are each made of a different type of yarn, and he's 'allergic' to some yarns before I choose which sweater) ... but he 'doesn't want anything' for Christmas, really, because he says 'I can't help it if you keep me so comfortable and happy that I don't want anything' ... and that is why my 'big answer' to you is LOVE ... we LOVE each other, so whatever 'real gifts' we buy are given with that LOVE, so that we are both 'comfortable and happy' and don't NEED any gifts on 'holidays or birthdays' ...
And, my husband and I went 'out' to dinner on Thanksgiving, and he took me to our 'International District' aquarium shops afterwards, and bought me 18 new fish for our two fish tanks ... and he's 'threatening' to do the same on Christmas (if possible) ... JUST BECAUSE HE LOVES ME!

Community service is the gift that keeps on giving. I'm not able to give money or material goods to charities this year, so I've been giving my time. In my experience, that's a better gift because it inspires so many more people to give back to their communities.

The golden rule of helping others in need because then those people will appreciate the help they got that they would end up doing the same thing for someone else and so on.

The other golden rule is doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Doing nice things, being nice comes back to you and it continues to grow non stop.

Also cast iron horseshoes or worn horseshoes with the U shape up for good luck.
They don't cost much money and they will bring good luck to those who have them.
Whoever gives horseshoes with the U shape up to people will give good luck to them and as a result will get good luck for giving good luck.

Every year my husband and I write letters to each other for Christmas. I save them and read them from time to time. Also, each year we buy the kids an ornament of something that they like and write their names and the year on the back... They love getting them out each year and seeing how they've changed through the years. When they're adults I will pass them all over to them for their own house.
