He said no presents - should I decline to accept the gift? I am afraid he was too extravagant. Or if I don't decline the gift then I want to get him something nice but I don't know him very well. He has a huge HO train set up in his basesment. Takes up a whole 8x10 room. He has a really nice telescope. He races RC boats. He has about 1,000 DVDs. I don't mind spending the money (up to $100.00) but I have no idea what to get him. I don't want to go overboard but I don't want to buy him some cheap trinket either. He doesn't wear watches or jewelry. Already said "Don't get me any clothes". HELP! Any suggestions on what I should get this really wonderful guy for Christmas?

Well, first off you just have a wrapped box.... no gift yet. When you open it you will find out what it is and then you need to make some decisions

So.. you need to decided

1) Will you keep it (whatever it is)
2) Will you be ready to respond

I like someones idea of a gift card. So use that to cover your bets...

buy several in different denominations. Then wrap each in a distinctive wrap. Once you open his gift you can decide what to do and you can hand him the appropriate card with a comment about how you did not know what to get him. That way you will have matched his gift pretty well - if that is important to you.

Merry Christmas.....

Get him some gift cards to his favorite hobby stores. He is bound to need something for his collection of trains, and boats. You could also do a bookstore gift card. I am sure that he probably likes to read up on his hobbies. Or do a restaurant gift card. No guy can refuse food! If he has an iPod you can get him some iTUnes cards. Or just do a combination of all of the above.

Okay this is a tough one.
I am not sure what area of the country you are in but if it is getting cold out and the climate permits I would get him a VERY NICE pair of warm leather gloves (unless he works for peta of course) and a beautiful warm scarf. Not your average everyday kind, something nice like cashmere.
Include a nice card and tell him every time he wears them you want him to think of you surrounding him in warmth.
or
You could find a nice spa in the area and get him a gift certificate for a full hour body massage.

Merry Christmas
Deb

If he said no presents, here's a suggestion. Does he have a favorite restaurant? Is there any movie out that he's interested in seeing (even if you aren't that keen on his selection)? Take him to dinner and a movie, or so something else with him that he enjoys. That could easlily cost up to $100 and is not really a gift you can wrap, but it would be appreciated anyway.

If he doesn't want you spending any money on him and you want to get him a gift, then buy him a cast iron horseshoe with the U shape up for good luck.
It doesn't cost much so he won't make a big fuss over you spending too much money on him.
Also he will be so delighted that you cared enough about him to want good luck in his daily life.

Gift cards are always great gifts. You don't have to worry about getting him the wrong thing!

try spending it on an activity rather then a present, something you can both do. something like zorbing for example.

he said no gifts.. so screw him.. he sounds rich, he is buying your love and companionship.. let him. your gift to him is putting up with all his crap.
