Add x from both sides:
3y=x+9
Divide 3 from both sides:
y=1/3x+3
To The Drunken Fool, I reported you for giving me a thumbs down for my right answer, because you gave me one and I did not give you a thumbs down. That is very rude and uncalled for and if you're going to be such a smart allic, then you should have not even bother to answer this question in the first place.

OK
Key is to isloate y
-x+3y=9
3y = 9+x; add x to both sides
y = (9+x)/3 ; divide both sides by 3
y = (9+x) /3 or
y = 3 + x/3
Hope that helps

-x + 3y = 9, so
3y = 9 + x, so
y = (9 + x)/3.
Hope this helps, Twiggy.
