well, when I was in highschool from 1995-2000 (in Australia) my parents gave me to start off with 60 Australian dollars a month, and then later 80 dollars then lastly 100 dollars. But with that I had to pay for my own entertainment and my own clothes. Only sometimes did my parents give me a bit extra like if I really needed some new shoes or something which would blow out a months allowance.
I know its annoying and it seems patronising the whole "learning the value of money" crap. And you are thinking about your friends getting more and all the things you are missing out on, but trust me. When you dont have to do anything (or hardly anything) for that money, its fantastic. But when you have to work a mindless crappy minimum wage job all day when you want to be doing a thousand other things and then you have to spend all your pay check on the electric bill and rent, you'll wish for the day you were back at your parents house paying for nothing and them giving you money.

I was a kid a VERY long time ago!!
My allowance was $20 a week back in the 70's. I started working when I was 14 years old and never got an allowance after that.

I stopped getting an allowance 10 years ago, but then it was $5 a week, plus extra if I did certain additional chores like mowing the lawn, plus they would give me gas money.
If they really want you to learn the value of money then they should make you get a job!

I didn't get any, it was called chores though they did usually pay for me to go skating on Saturday night so I guess that was my allowance. And by the time I was in high school I was working pt. 30 hours a week.

I got $20 a month. with inflation that may be $40 a month today. but that was to buy lunch, snacks, whatever. I had the option to bring home lunch and stuff, so i could save my money for something special. my parents would pay for clothes and necessities.
Sounds like they want you to learn that money is easier to spend than to acquire.

I never got any. I lived in the same house so I would do the same chores that anyone would have to do. After all, nobody paid my mother to make my dinner and wash my clothes. So I got a job and I still washed the dishes and mowed the lawn...
