I've noticed many people who disagree with evolution theories (and some who do agree with them) seem to completely misunderstand what biological evolution is.

Please summarize the Theory of Evolution as you understand it in a basic statement, keeping in mind you don't have to agree with a theory to understand what it says... but you do have to understand a theory before you can make an intelligent choice about it.
