Italy officially the Italian Republic, , is located on the Italian Peninsula in Southern Europe, and on the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. Italy shares its northern Alpine boundary with France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. The independent states of San Marino and the Vatican City are enclaves within the Italian Peninsula, while Campione d'Italia is an Italian exclave in Switzerland.
Italy has been the home of many European cultures, such as the Etruscans and the Romans, and later was the birthplace of the movement of the Renaissance, that began in Tuscany and spread all over Europe. Italy's capital Rome has been the center of Western Civilization, and is the center of the Catholic Church.
Today, Italy is a democratic republic, and a developed country with the 7th-highest GDP (nominal) and the 20th-highest Human Development Index rating in the world. It is a founding member of what is now the European Union (having signed the Treaty of Rome in 1957), and also a member of the G8, the Council of Europe, the Western European Union, and the Central European Initiative. Beginning January 1, 2007, Italy became a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

umm why don't you go to wikipedia and type in "Italy." There are many attractions you have to determine what part of Italy you will be writing about, northern or southern Italy? You can talk about Rome, that city has a lot of old monuments and architecture, you can talk about the Trevi Fountain, The Coliseum, the Vatican museum, the Pope, the David statue, The Rape of a Sabine statue, you can talk about Venice and their gondola's, st. peter's square, you can talk about the city of Pisa and the leaning tower.
There is so much you can write about with Italy the choices are infinite.
Italian food obviously the wine, the pasta, the pizza, panini's are very big there, the thing about food in some bakeries is that you walk in and you have to pick out your food and pay for it before they actually give it to you, do more research on that, but when I went to Italy we stood around like idiots before we realized you have to pay for it first then you just go pick it up. They are very big on the multiple meal courses, you get salad, pasta, meat dish etc. Italy is big on the meat such as pig.
Packing limits on airlines are standard, you need to have a suitcase that is under 50 pounds or so? I'd look that number up, but you get a carry on and one piece of luggage per person.
Words on the street, obviously Ciao for hello goodbye, Grazie for thank you, Prego= can i help you? there are so many things I know how to say but you need to specify what you want, (included below i put a website on italian phrases about EVERYTHING)
