if they are deleted without going to the recycle Bin, then they are gone forever. I hope those files weren't too important.

Only files that are located on the hard drive(s) of your computer will go into the Recycle Bin on your computer. When a file goes into the Recycle bin, all that really happens is that the pointer to the files moves from the old directory it was in to the Recycle Bin directory. As a network file is not on your computer, there is no pointer to move.

The file will have to be recovered from the network computer it use to be on. If this was a work or Internet server, talk to the people who administer it. Most have a "recycle bin" where files deleted by someone over the network are moved. (Protect against you deleting someone else's files). Or they keep backups from which the file can be recovered.

If it was another person's personal PC, have them cycle the Recycle Bin on that computer. Depending on settings, it may or many not be there. If not, then you would need to run an "undelete" or "recovery" software on the other PC to restore the file.

Files deleted from a network drive do not go into your PC's recycle bin. That's why you can't find them.
You can try and see if there is a shadow drive for the server.
failing that you will be able to restore them from the server back up - You do have the server backed up daily don't you?

It depends very much on what kind of server do you have, and how it's configured for backup: on windows servers, you may refind them on the backup copies or in the shadow archive; on Novell Netware servers, they are always intact, in a place like Recycle Bin in the server, accessible by the administrator. If you still don't find them, and it's a Windows server, then it is a chance to retrieve them with a software like HandyRecovery, run on the server itself, immediately after the deletion. Be quick!

If the files are on a windows server I would check to see if shadow copy is running. Shadow copy can be setup to archive files during certain times in the day, and if the file is lost you can restore from one of the backups.

Good luck

Unless there are backups, or shadow copies, setup on the network drive your files are gone.
