Reading is in the county of Berkshire 38 miles from London. The fastest way to get there from London is by First Great Western train from London Paddington. There are about 6 trains per hour taking just 25 to 30 minutes.

About 40-45 miles depending on whcih bit of London you are coming from. Unless you are right next to the M4 or M3 its going to take you more like 1hr 30mins to get from London to Reading duie to the traffic at the London end.
Train is around 30 minutes from Paddington

I lived in England for 2 years and it would be better to get a bus to a subway station and then go subway throughout London. The traffic in London is horrible and the bus system outside of London is great and the subway system in London is awesome and easy to use.
