Because he used a bad word in an argument with his adult son. The son recorded it and voila! Dad's in disgrace.
Dog apologized profusely, explaining that he he was just mad and he's not a racist and he's ashamed to have used that kind of language.
I've always been an advocate of precise use of words. Don't call somebody stupid if you just mean they made a stupid mistake. And definitely don't use a racial slur when you mean to say that a person has poor character. But I've seen it often enough. Somebody gets mad because a co-worker isn't doing his job, out comes a racial slur and things get worse. Then the hard-working person has to apologize for using bad language and the lazy one looks like the victim.
It's better to just say exactly what you mean.

The show was cancelled because Dog left a message on his son's answering machine (one of his 9 children and one that he does not get along with) calling his son's fiance' (who is black) a n&^$er. His son then released the recording to the media. So A&E cancelled the show because they don't like controversy.

Come on... its a reality show... or its supposed to be a reality show... well here is the reality Dog is a man in his 50's from the south who was in prison in the 1970's. He has views that are not popular and not a lot of people agree with. If you want reality there it is. Don't edit, put it out there and see the reality that there are people in the world that have different view and in some cases offensive views then other people. Just because we don't agree with it, doesn't mean it can't be said.

Because he (Dog) got a whole bunch of Black people upset. I guess BET won't be picking up the show anytime soon.

Because in a phone message to his son, made public by his son, he used the N-word in relation to the son's girlfriend. A&E did not want to endorse or promote this kind of behavior, so they canned him.
