my pc does have dual channel but i only want one module in the slot and it will be 512mb of ram could i do that

you can, but that REALLY defeats the purpose of dual channel.

Memory really isnt that expensive anymore. I would suggest getting 2x512mb instead. Im assuming you have 2 free slots, but if not, then disregard what i just said and go with what you were going to do origninally :-D

You can do that but it will be slower if it is not running in Dual Channel Mode. Inserting another 512 DIMM in the 2nd slot will increase performance.

If the 512 stick is computable with your system, there should be no problem, but you will be cutting your processing speeds in half by only running in single channel.
