Mrs WC here.
I agree somewhat with the others, but had a very different experience than they describe.
I married my best friend from high school. We had a lot of fun together, had two beautiful children and divorced 6 years later. So, to an extent, I think marriage is a great way to wreck a good friendship. ;)
I've been married to my second husband for almost 23 years now. We are best friends, although when we were younger, my husband used to call me his buddy since I was game enough to get up at 4 am to go fishing with him. :)

Absolutely. And if I needed a different best friend for a couple hours because my husband was being a jack*** I'd call my sister. But other than that, I believe your husband/wife can be your best friend and for the most part SHOULD be your best friend.

Of course, A lot of marriages work well, because you were friends before hand.... Besides a husband and wife should be the best of friends, apart from being you spouse and your lover all at once....
Good Luck!

Yes.
A best friendship can turn into a relationship which later leads to marriage in some instances.
Or, a relationship can turn into a best friendship that ends up with marriage.. like me and my fiance. I had a crush on him when we were in high school, we started talking and ended up dating. Through dating him we became each others best friends, we can tell one another anything.
So, not only is he my fiance and lover, he's my best friend... the one person I can trust with my life.

my parents have been married 50 + years and the thing they tell their children the most is that you have got to be each others best friend or the marriage will not work and i think after 50 years together and they still say they are each other s best friend then ther must be something to it

absolutely. too bad that is not in the vows. I think that is the problem with marriages they are not best friends. When you are best friends you know before you get married the good and the bad. Great question.

Of course, that is what makes the relationships last, because you have to be able to have fun, laugh, joke all things a Best Friend would do, as you age... there are things that only your Best friend will know,,, and he./she will always be by your side.
