I'm certainly not offended by it. I nursed my son in public whenever he needed to be fed. There is nothing indecent about it, you are so very right.
People who have issues with it do have a problem, and it's really immature of them to have such problems. Women who nurse in public aren't completely exposing themselves, they are covered. The baby needs to be fed, plain and simple. People don't bat an eye if they see someone bottle feeding a baby. People don't bat an eye seeing other people eating. So why bat an eye seeing a nursing mom?
Kudos to you for having common sense.
The woman (if she is one) who stated that it's disrespectful and lazy to nurse a baby is a moron. I cannot believe that someone would say that. There is nothing at all disrespectful nor lazy about breastfeeding a baby. I chose to nurse my son, and when he needed to be fed, I did so. What moronic thinking to say that it's lazy and disrespectful.

in the 50s and 60s it was really frowned apon to breast feed in public, it wasnt until the 70s that it really kicked off.
breast feeding can be done discretly so there is no need just to flop your boob out for all to see and leave it on show (and i dont know 1 breast feeding mum who does!)
i think its seeing a womans nipple in public that really starts arguements as a lot of women / girls go around with very low cut tops on where people can see loads of boob flesh anyway so it cant just be that skin thats frowned upon surely?
i would prefer a quiet content baby to be out and about rather than a screaming one!
im pregnant with my 2nd child at the moment and i intend to breast feed and i will publicly feed him/her as i can always pull my jacket around us or wear a loose top that will cover the "offending" breast lol.
and im also sure now that the government (uk) has now brought out some bill of rights for breast feeding mothers, i dont think they can now be made to go into a toilet and sit on the loo to feed and the owners cant kick them out either as its discrimination. (it was on the news a few months ago - "breast is best but not here thankyou") if they havent provided facilities for feeding and changing a baby then its their tough luck. it all come up after a woman was banned from ever returning to a cafe because she breast fed there once.

I just have to say that it's hilarious to me when people say that BFing women "expose themselves" like it's some huge thing and they're shirtless.
I must say, in all my uncovered BFing time, I have never exposed my whole breast. Maybe a millisecond nipple shot once in a while but there's more inappropriateness at the local junior high bus stop than when I BF

Because we have been raised to view the breast as a sexual object. This causes difficulties for both sexes. Although i am not offended by breast feeding in public i do agree a little discreetness can go a long way. What i do not appreciate seeing is a large child ( Toddler and up) feeding openly, sometimes walking away and then coming back for a top up as mum continues to hold conversation with friends! I find this offensive and completely unnessercary.
A hungry screaming baby, or a contented happy baby on the breast with a bit of mums flesh showing? no real choice is there.

I am currently breastfeeding my daughter and did breastfeed my oldest daughter for 3 1/2 yrs. If anyone has a problem about it, well then To Bad!
I breastfed where and when she needed it {and same goes for the baby} I do not just Plop my Boob out for the whole world to see, I am modest about it, but I could care less if I offend anyone. I find it personally offensive for anyone who bottle feeds their baby and gives me a dirty look because I breastfeed.

again we have the idiot here that makes the false analogy of breastfeeding to excretion
yes excretion is natural .....as is breastfeeding
but eating is also natural.....and breastfeeding is eating
so Jen....it's a shame that your mother taught you to be shameful of feeding her child....and you obviously have never breastfed a baby
it's much much more than simply pumping to bottle feed my kid in public....yes that is too much work!.....and you just cannot simply go without nursing whenever you do not want to breastfeed....the breasts will be ready to nurse regardless of whether or not the baby had a bottle....and mom will leak and need to feed
and many breast babies will refuse a bottle.....educata youself before you start judging woman for FEEDING their babies.....you are stuck on sex
my baby feeds in public when and wherever ......no blanket required......no "napkin" and all that stupid s hit!
i just nurse her.....easy

older women? I wasn't aware they are the ones offended...
some feel it is private and other's feel they shouldn't need to restrain when and where they feed their baby...and I don't think people are taking offense perse...they are embarassed at that notion of nudity. Exposing an area that is otherwise covered can make people uncomfortable.
I agree though...after 2 it's just weird.

Why does it vex you so?
It can be done discretely, why is it that mothercare expect you to do it in the loos? How unhygienic is that. Debenhams gold card lounge, a cup of coffee, an easy chair, and the paper, while the missus chills with the bab.

I don't think its offensive, but i wont be just getting my breast out to feed my baby in public when she arrives, i'll at least try to cover it up or go somewher a little more private! Okay its the most natural thing in the world, but some people just don't want to see it and im okay with that.........

It's pretty easy. People that get offended are actually LOOKING. If they look the other way, they won't see anything, and even trying hard, they really won't see much skin. It's not that I'm sitting in front of them forcing them to look at my breasts at gunpoint (or ringing their bells to nurse at their home). Example: When I'm watching TV I change the channel if I don't like what's on.
The last thought in my mind when I'm nursing my baby in public is what people can think.
