by accident, BUT nothing happened! What gives? shouldnt there be sparks and stuff?

Generally, metal will reflect microwaves rather than allow them to penetrate, but the quantity of metal is a big part of the equation. Small amounts of metal do not cause problems in microwaves, which is why microwaveable soups (which have metal lids), and foods that use reflector sheets, like microwaveable pizza, can heat/crisp their respective foods so well.

Just don't put the tea kettle in there. That would just be begging for trouble.

Should be. In had an old microwave that I was going to throw away and I ran it way out in the yard with an extension cord and put all kinds of stuff in it. The best was a piece of wadded up aluminum foil. It was pretty. Aluminum soda cans are cool too.

Turn the microwave on ;)

Nothing much happens anyway apart from some sparks and arcs. Nothing dangerous unless you hook up about 20 magnetrons at once.

Try rolled up tin foil that works, but first turn of the light coz its like the northern lights coming from the microwave, all the pretty colours so cool, lol.

try putting a smaller microwave in the microwave - that should make for some interesting sparks

haahaha... my brother put a thermometer in the microwave once. he said he wanted to see what happened. the power went off at our house and the thermometer broke. lol. he was 10 or 11 back then.

pending on the wattage it was turned on, and the type of metal the spoon was! u could of had a plastic spoon in there 4 all we know. lol

The newer microwaves aren't affected by utensils made of nickle.

Depends on how long you had it in there for. and did you want to see sparks and your microwave blow up? lol.

Maybe you didnt switch on the microwave! lol. Luckily it didnt explode...Once I put a soap bar there (Accidentally too!) and the glass plate explode.
