I sit at my desk all day, answer personal emails, answer people on medhelp.org (Relationship forum), read the news. Or, I stare out my office window wondering about my life.

My job is extremely boring and my boss is a micro-manager and I've just given up and let him do everything. The other day he showed me how to "sort" on Excel. I am an expert in Excel but I let him show me b/c I just dont' care anymore

Before you think I do no work at all, I do work at times but my job is basically a part time job and I can get it all done in abt 4 days a month.

I don't care anymore and worse, I have no desire to find another job which I know I should be looking for. I think I'm just afraid I will find another job like this one or else I'll be so busy I won't know how to handle it.

Has anyone else experienced this? What is my problem?

Thanks!

The problem is, you're not getting satisfaction or stimulation from your job. Therefore, you're not inspired to do anything. Being micro-managed sucks a lot of energy out of you. I don't know how you didn't kill your boss about the Excel thing.

I suggest, you go into your bosses' office, sit down, and sweetly ask for more responsibilities. Don't trod all over him, tell him you'd like to do more. Micro-managers micro manage because they either think they know better than others OR they don't trust others to do it as well as they would. Or, they like the sound of their own voice so much. Or, your boss is so bored that he needs to micro manage or he'd be bored, too. He's just better at appearing busy than you are.

After 22 years of being an office admin, I know these things. I know that it can be the most boring, and most taxing job on the planet. It sucked a lot of energy from me. Be smart and see if you can turn this job into something you love. If its a good job with good benefits and you like it there, see what you can do to make it better for yourself.

Sorry if I'm off the mark. This is just my 2 cents :)

You need something interesting in your life.

If you have loads of time then set yourself the challenge of writing a novel about a person like you, who has a boring job but also has a secret life as a master spy or something like that.

surely, even if you admit it or not, you don't love your job.. no one may concentrate on his job unless it's in his/her line of interest.. and probably, you're bored.. and regarding you don't wanting to find another job, probably because you're scared of failure, but it's normal for anyone, at first, that you're afraid you might not do or excel in whatever you will be doing.. but never give up, in time, you'll be gaining back yourself again and find what you're really looking forward to.

Read webcomics.

That should last you a while.
Then again, I've ran out of webcomics. That'd be why I'm posting here right now.
