Ok, we are working with perpendicular bisectors here. If the base of a triangle and D is the midpoint, AD=5x-3 and DC=7x-15, what is the value of x?

5x - 3 = 7x - 15
15 - 3 = 7x - 5x
12 = 2x
x = 6

Try AC
which equals= 5x-3+7x-15
-5x-7x=-3-15
-12x=-12
hey what do you know...x=1 if you work it like that.

or

you could do
AD=5x-3
5x=3
x=3/5
DC=7x-15
7x=15
x=15/7 or 1 1/7

so just remember...in mathematics there are so many different ways to look at problems...just wait until you learn Trigonmetry and you find out that its possible for 2+2 to =10 because of circles...and you will be amazed at how the formula for a circle comes from a triangle.

AD = DC
5x-3 = 7x-15
-3+15 = 7x-5x
12 = 2x
x = 6
