My husband wants a new 40+ inches television set this christmas but I don't know what to buy. He higlighted that it's intended for "football".... Any idea what brand is good?

Aref H4, I saw that article in yahoo today that's why I am asking the comment of my fellow countrymen who are very well verse in electronic gadgets.

My hubby recommends Panasonic. We likewise have a Viera at home. Can't complain, quality picture and more enjoyable when you have a good home theater =)

Battgirl says plasma is better, thus - it is also my recommendation.
However, I just read that plasma tv consumes more electricity than LCD (about 100 plus watts more), or $100 more per year in electric bills. This article appears today in Yahoo.

I'd recommend a SONY bravia LCD. I'm very satisfied with it. Other brands that seem to be popular in the Philippines right now are Samsung and Panasonic which are a bit more affordable than SONY.

LCD TV definitely especially with the 1080p capability.. 1080i or 720p can also work
