Gemini, in case you didn't know where to look, are two bright stars close to Mars in the night sky. You can't mistake mars for it's size and colour ... If you have the capability to take pics of the shower, will you be posting your pics online for all to share?

I live in the UK, sorta central and Mars rides high over my back garden which thankfully has no lights from the distant town centre. The cold snap should sharpen anything in the cloudless sky andat the moment, with the absence of any moonlight things are really clear.
Castor and Pollux seem to sit high around 1 a.m 2 a.m, which as I found with the perseids, is the best time to take the first look. The showers seem to heighten as dawn approaches and by then most of us have retired to the warmth of our beds.
I'm optimistic that I'll see a good few of the Geminid meteors, yet by then the moon will have returned to the night sky.

Thanks for that Geoff. Where I live, Sheffield, there's a host of major constellations seemingly parading over my home from Orion, Taurus, Gemini, Casseopiea. Then there's Sirius quite low, Capella to the west and of course Mars sat majestically amongst the show... around midnight Mars is quite high along with Gemini so I'm just hoping for a clear sky. I actually saw a long "shooter" last night 11th, so the build up is underway. Happy viewing everyone.

B.'s information is for the US, and not quite correct. The maximum is predicted for around 17:00 GMT on the 14th, not the 13th, but the radiant will be low in your sky at that time. The number of meteors should increase as the night goes on in the UK, hitting maximum after midnight. It's not important to know where the radiant is located, as the meteors can appear anywhere in the sky. In fact, the longer ones are farthest away from the radiant.

My husband and I live in Dallas, so we have to drive somewhere away from the city to see anything. Last year, we went out to a country road to see the Perseids and that was a total flop. I heard later that they were much fewer than expected, but we were really bummed out. For the Geminids, it will depend a lot on the weather. Lately we are having a cold snap and I don't know if it will warm up enough by Thursday. We don't have camera equipment to photo, but would like to see others' if they are available.

The meteor shower peak is expected to be Thursday night-Friday morning this week around midnight to 2am. The entire USA can see it best if you get away from the city lights to a darker sky location. If you stay in the city you will only be able to see the bigger and brighter ones.

this nighttime Sunday Dec thirteenth via early morning of the Dec 14th i think of your maximum suitable timeis going to be from approximately 9:00 PM (even at mountain time) to break of day on the Dec 14th seem to the east on the Constellation Gemini. it ought to have a reliable sky place approximately 9:00PM this nighttime. The meteors will seem to radiate from the middle of Gemini. certainly get out a attempt to video exhibit them. this is somewhat straight forward. All you like are your 2 eyeballs, backyard chair that lays each and all of the some time past, a drowsing bag, and dark skies (so get removed from the city lights). seem to the east the place Gemini is starting to be.
