6 answers

5x + 2y = 20
3x + 4y = 26

- 10x - 4y = - 40
3x + 4y = 26------ADD

-7x = - 14
x = 2

6 + 4y = 26
4y = 20
y = 5

x = 2 , y = 5

2007-12-11 00:09:11 · answer #1 · answered by Como 7 · 1 0

(20-2y)=5x
2y =20 - 5x
y = 10 - 5/2x ==>(1)
(26-4y)=3x
4y = 26 - 3x ==(2)

Subsitute (2) in (1)

4(10 - 5/2x) = 26 -3x
40 -10x = 26 - 3x
7x = 14
x = 2.

Put x in equation (2)
4y = 26 - 3x
4y = 26 - 3(2)
4y = 20
y = 5

x = 2 and y =5

(20-2y) = 5x =========> Eq. 1
(26-4y) = 3x =========> Eq. 2

Mulitply Eq. 1 by 2

2(20-2y) = 5x
40 - 4y = 10x ==> Eq. 3

Subtract Eq. 2 from Eq. 3

40 - 4y = 10x ====> Eq. 3
- ( 26 - 4y = 3x) ====> Eq. 2
________________

14 = 7x
14/7 = x
x = 2

Substitute the value of x in Eq. 1

(20-2y) = 5x ===> Eq. 1
20 - 2y = 5(2)
20 - 2y = 10
- 2y = 10 - 20
-2y = -10
y = -10/-2
y = 5
=============

x =2, y = 5

look! i dont know how i got it but i dont know how i got the answer but i know its right...just try my method

1. 20=5x+2y
2. 26=3x+4y

i then multiple -2 to the 1st equation...( DONT DO THE 2ND)

-2( -20= -15x + 2y)
26= 3x + 4y

* so you get....*

-40 = -10 - 4y
26 = 3x + 4y

-14= -7x

x=2

* now just plug in the x and you have your answer for Y which should be 5

SOOO....all together x=2 and y=5

Answer:
20-2y=5x.....(1)
26-4y=3x......(2)
from (1)..
x=4-2/5y

substitute x value in (2)...

(2).. becomes...

26-4y=3(4-2/5y)
26-4y=12-6/5y
26-12=(4-6/5)y
14=14/5y
y=(5*14)/14

y=5;

substitute y value in (1)
(1) becomes..

20-2(5)=5x
10=5x
x=2;

Result:
x=2,
y=5.

y = one million/2x + 3 The y intercept is the element the place the graph intersects the y axis, i.e. the place x = 0: y = one million/2*0 + 3 = 3 y intercept is (0,3) The x intercept is the element the place the graph intersects the x axis, i.e. the place y = 0: 0 = one million/2*x + 3 <=> -3 = one million/2*x <=> -6 = x x intercept is (-6,0). -2y = 5*0-12 = -12 <=> y = 6 y intercept is (0,6). Simplify to in elementary terms get y on the left area: y = -(one million/2)(5x-12) = -(5/2)x+6 0 = -(5/2)x+6 <=> -6 = -(5/2)x <=> 12 = 5x <=> 12/5 = x x intercept is (12/5,0).
