Apparently there are 18 organisations in the UK licensed to carry mail, such as ANC or Lynx Mail.
Are they any better, or will they lose stuff and then act like they couldn't give a monkeys too?
Thanks.

With Royalmail, before sending itself you must know what will happen if you lose it - by either:
a) recorded signed for (min 92p)
b) Guaranteed delivery (£4.30)

Using a) is not guaranteed but you would still get £32 pounds compensation is not while b) is guaranteed and gets you £500 comp.

In my view, Royalmail gives best value for money with all supporting technology(status tracking & delivery). Most importantly, their services are easily accessible via network of post offices.

Using other private providers is a matter of choice and for more reliability, but cost sky rockets. For example sending a standard packet weighing 1kg from London to Edinburgh using Royalmail "next day" would cost you just £6.00 where as DHL domestic will charge you £20.00( including VAT).

You get what you pay for .. other services may well be more reliable, however they will charge you 'parcel' prices (i.e. minimum cost anything from £2 upwards) ...
