wow little miss self centered. Its not always about u, u know. There r other religions that celebrate other holidays around this time of the year. The whole point of america is to be free to believe whatever u want. So no...we were not founded by one certain god! Like how not all of us have the same hair color or the same eye color. We're all different especially in the holidays we celebrate. Y do people always think its their way or no way? Happy holidays is used because so if the person doesn't celebrate christmas it can stand for any holiday that the person does celebrate. Plus new year's is a holiday too

I am a Christian but I realize that not everyone else is. I also realize that this is a time of year when several holidays fall within a short period of time. When I say, "Happy Holidays" to someone it is because I am encompassing Hanukkah, Christmas, New Year's Day, Kwanzaa... heck Winter Solstice if that is what floats their boat. I assume that is what others are doing when they send me cards that say Happy Holidays or people in stores say this.
It might help to have the Spirit of Christmas and not be so political ( We were founbed on God-and Christ...it's in our courthouses...legislature bldgs..on our MONEY!!). It will keep you in a better mood and keep your blood pressure down.
Merry Christmas :)

There is no guidance from Jesus, God or the Prophets or the Church as to how to give people a holiday greeting...only instruction to love one another and to respect those of other faiths...so stop and ask yourself...if you're not fighting for Jesus, who ARE you fighting for?
There are several reasons why "Happy Holidays" is used and if you listened more, and spoke less, you'd know that around the time that Christians start saying "Happy Christmas" to each other, other major religions are also celebrating major festivals...so Happy Holidays is an appropriate greeting to make to a stranger, or a group of people. Suggesting that these people should be IGNORED because your own religion happens to also be celebrating is shockingly rude!
You shouldn't take offence at the word Holiday. It comes from the Christian "Holy Day" so even if you do wish to be rude, or wish to aggressively assert your religion on others, you can still use the phrase "Holiday".
So please, stop getting millitant - it's not God's way.

On the way home last night, I was listening to the radio when a newscaster called his little 91 year old granny to talk to her about the 'Holidays'. He mentioned that he had noticed that Christmas has become so 'politically correct' that no mention of Christmas is made by most retailers, we now wish people 'Happy Holidays.'
His granny said she missed the Old Fashioned Christmas when everyone wished each other 'Merry Christmas'.
I thought about it and agree...so this year I will be making a conscious effort to wish everyone Merry Christmas...my way of saying that I am celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
Once again, it is one more treasured tradition being lost in the sea of 'Political Correctness.'
It is something regarding Christ...now a days, anything that does that gets stopped everywhere.

Funny you should mention this. Just this past Sunday as I was leaving a store a young woman was blocking my way. I said 'excuse me' and as she stepped aside she wished me "Happy Holidays" I thanked her then said, "Merry Christmas" to her. She smiled, and then said, "You're right! Merry Christmas".
As far as offending people goes, I cannot imagine anyone being offended by being wished a Merry Christmas. I would not be offended if someone wished me a Happy ______ whatever holiday they celebrate as long as it was a time of good cheer and fellowship.
My niece is married to a Jewish fellow and his family enjoys Christmas even though they celebrate Hanukkah. Christmas is still a very nice and enjoyable time of year regardless of your faith or lack thereof.
Merry Christmas!

Perhaps it is a way of incorporating ALL holidays together...Thanksgiving, Hanuka, Christmas, New Year's..just a simple way of saying it is "Happy Holidays". And I just want this opportunity to wish you and your family a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

I never thought of it that way, i just thought it was a way of people including the three holidays together (Thanksgiving, CHRISTMAS, and New Years)....Its a shorter way to wish some a Happy Holiday for all three, it kind of just caught on, now more people say it....
