Cherry blossoms look best for about a week to a week and a half. Keep in mind that different varieties bloom at slightly different times. If by chance it rains during that time then it may only be a few days.

If you know about the Japanese culture...the less time that a flower is in bloom the more beautiful and beloved it is. Hence, the reason that Japanese people skip work and have a alcohol imbibed picnic under the cherry blossoms every year!
This is no exaggeration there were always hundreds of people out at the local castle, sitting and drinking with friends.

Weather conditions and location play a big part in how long they last. It's true it can be from 1 even up to 2 weeks but wind and rain can bring it to screeching halt!

Although the story of the Japanese picnic and becoming intoxicated under the cherry trees sounds exciting it is somewhat exaggerated. There are several Japanese paintings depicting the custom of the picnic under the trees along with showing the food and parcels they were packed in they also show sake' containers. There may be some that do partake in the long ago custom.!
They do like their alcohol.

They last 3 hours and 13 minutes if it doesnt rain. Bring plenty of booze too.
