It's called 'maintaining standards'

Most professions are subject to regulation by a central professional body. This is so that standards are upheld, so that people practising within the profession concerned have carried out a certain course of training and reached an approved level and so that people having recourse to their services may be assured that they are dealing with someone who is going to behave properly and do a reasonable job. If a complaint is received about a solicitor, then that solicitor may be subject to disciplinary proceedings. This is important both from the view of other practioners within the profession and from that of the general public.
