Most smokers seem to be in a smoke cloud coma not to be aware that their smoking puts children and non-smokers at increased health risk with inhaling second hand tobacco smoke! Speak about it openly and ask smokers to indulge outside and definitely refrain from polluting the air that children breath.

I am a smoker. I smoke only when outside and make a point of stepping a comfortable distance away from others (although I did smoke in pubs before the ban, I admit). If I can, I wash my hands and have a mint straight after a smoke so as to not smell too unpleasant for others- and the day after a night out I always make a point of washing my hair. So I think I'm quite a considerate smoker- I certainly wouldn't smoke with children in the same room or in a car with the windows UP, with a child in the seat next to me (I've seen it done!)
Hope you find this useful.

I smoke, I enjoy smoking and I have no intention of giving up.
However I do not think in anyway that people should be subjected to my habit which they may find disgusting.
I never smoke in the house and would not smoke in anybody elses house unless invited to.
If I go somewhere where people do not smoke I am certainly able to refrain for a couple of hours, I also do not smoke in the car.
Everybody treats us like demons, but I do not drink.
Drinking is far worse, when did a smoker crash a car and kill innocent people through the effects of smoking.

I'm a smoker and I definitely DO NOT think it's alright to smoke in the same room as children. If there are non smokers or children in my home, I go outside to smoke. Same goes for when I'm in someone else's home. Not all smokers are inconsiderate.

No. I'm a smoker and I think it's fine to smoke around non-smokers if you know them. if you don't know them and it's in a place where it is legal, then they have the right to smoke. Smoking around children is, I must amdit not very nice. Because children may not always be able to get up and leave! It's damagin to their health. That said grandpa smoking a *** once a week aorund his grandchildren is not that bad. I think you should be thankful that your husband only smokes in the bathroom. I smoke everywhere in my house! But I do believe it is more considerate in general to smoke outside. I try to do that when I can...

No, all smokers are not this inconsiderate. Having been a smoker myself (now reformed) all the time I was smoking I was very conscious of other non-smokers around me as were all my friends. It's all in the asking. If you invite people over to your home, they should always ask before lighting up. and if they do, all you have to do is ask them to please take their cigarettes outside as the second hand smoke worries you with the children in the house. You should also explain this to your husband and ask him to respect your wishes when it comes to this.

I am a non smoker, but i think they should take their stinky butts outside. If the kids get cancer, (and i hope to god they never do) they should sue!! if their in your house, its your rules. Get outside and shut the door or go home. Put the ash tray as far away as possible from the back door... then close the door behind him. They should get the idea. If not, just quietly say, 'look, im just going to keep the door shut while you smoke so the smoke doesn't come inside, ok'. I have friends who smoke and they wouldn't dare come into my house while smoking, they'd rather save themselves the embarresment! i think its very rude.

I have never met a smoker in my life that diddnt care how other people felt around them. Me, myself always ask if someone minds if i smoke in front of them, if they say no, i move to a different area. It is their choice to smoke in front of their children and grandchildren, yes it is wrong, but some people just do it. and if you question them about it, it would be rude so what you should do, if you want to invite them over for dinner, tell them that they need to smoke outside because you dont like it, its that simple

I smoke occasionally, but keep it around adult situations. Never around kids! (step outside for goodness sake!) If you have people over and you do not want them smoking in your house, it's perfectly ok for you to announce to everyone that if they would like to smoke, you have chairs and ashtrays out on the patio, or balcony (whatever applies) One friend over that smokes inside, may be okay, it's up to you what you allow in your house, but if you have a party and a lot of people smoke, it becomes overwhelming to everyone. Just have a designated place and make it clear that you prefer the smoking outside. It's not rude. If your guests can't be polite and grouse about your request, then they need to go to a night club, and they're off the invite list.

a lot of older time generations, never knew of the dangers of smoking or second hand smoking... thats why you still find ppl out there that will smoke wherever whenever. i am a smoker and i do so outside, away from my child (although i sometimes cant get outside, we have a bathroom in the house that no one uses since it needs to be redone... i open the window in there, and close the door on occasion.
