Very tough choice, but I will go with "2001: A Space Odyssey." I also appreciate "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and another oldie, "Forbidden Planet." The recent "War of the Worlds" was very good, too.
P.S. Oh, wait! How could I have forgotten "E.T." and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"?

Theoretically, it should be "2001, a Space Odyssey," but,
hmmm, seriously don't know, cause I'm not
terribly into that stuff, though there are at least
five I totally Would own if I'd bother.
Know whatti mean?
Umm...The X-files Fight The Future was ok.
The Matrix is brilliant in most of its being.
Vanilla Sky, if you think about it.
I'll come back with another perhaps...?

Call me a dork...but I really love the "Men In Black" movies... I mean, the comedy stylings of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith... SOOOO much fun.
I like other sci-fi movies, but those are my fav.
