I would like to believe that I'm free to ask any question.
I definitely see that *at times* I'm not that free to either post a question, nor to answer one. What I ask, what I see, has so much to do with my individual interpretation, with my own quest for self-knowledge, with what is going on in 'my world'.
Thus one can actually be very narrow in one's selection and in one's quest, not free, but rather a slave to one's conditioned way of percieving the world. It's like living in a bubble world or a dream or a story, that you youself are making up as you go along and to keep it going the way you want, you choose the variables you need to enrich this world.
It's almost like playing one of those virtual reality games.
Participating here in Y!Q&A starts to feel very much like that.
Good Question!

The question is not if one is 'free' to ask, the question is 'why' one is asking; I am free to question myself and every thing else. Are these questions then authentic? Do these come out of a real urge? Has this to do with my existence? Is it essential for me to find an answer? Asking a question is already half of the answer and probably I will get the other half also out of myself. If there is an answer coming from some one else, then it is only an answer for me if there is resonance coming from inside, so this answer reflects my already existing answer. I feel free to express any kind of question, but I will be aware that the place might not right to ask. I am here in 'answers' only a few weeks and I am still excited about the possibilities and the freedom offered here, although I see the limitations and understand that my question should be very clear and simple. I'm not talking about intellectual stuff but what comes out of me as an urge. When I answer questions then because I see the urge and need of the asker, although some times it is just my interpretation, mostly if the question is not clear and without details, but the question inspires me and what comes out of me is like I'm talking to myself. So I believe this place gives a lot of opportunities and freedom to express oneself and I don't feel disturbed by all those silly nonsense questions and answers, I can just ignore them.

Asking questions may not be possible here. If the question is reported it may be deleted. So there is no really freedom to ask any questions you want. There are certain community guidelines to follow that must abide to it. Otherwise the question you will ask will be hindered to get an answer. Certainly there is no freedom to speak of because of rules.
I star questions because i feel doing it. The star i gave symbolizes my attachment to a certain person. I star because it is important and interesting to me. There are personal issues why i star such a question. If you receive a star you deserve it and i mean it. Your answers i got from you are very informative and i learn a lot from you. I could not hide my appreciation how you help me on certain issues in philosophy. I look up to you as one of the best answerer.
Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

I would answer this as No. We are told that we live in the era of 'free speech', therefore the answer to your question should be Yes. However, with so much 'red tape' and do-gooders in society nowadays, there is so much fear of offending people, be it culturally or lifestyle that gags have effectively been put in place to bring that to an end. We therefore live in a society of free thought, so you can ask a 'volatile' question in your own head - perhaps voicing it to a like minded person at your own risk of being labelled as something or other, but everyone best keep their mouths shut unless it is a safe question such as "what's the weather like?!" People are not allowed to show differences in opinion too much these days.

clever question, but the truth is that we are not free to ask any question. if a question were to impede on another individual's ability to enjoy this site or make them feel violated in the sense of autonomy, then such a question would not be suitable and disallowed.
I just found out that a person could rent DVD's online and I found a god place, but I was wondering where other people do it??
I got 2 free rentals from this site and thought it was a GREAT DEAL! And for 4quid a month I get 2 dvds, how much are you guys paying??
I am also 1 step closer to getting an iphone, so check it out yourself!
NO CONTRACT, just try out FILMLOVE for 2 weeks then cancel and you will be credited for the reference and you get to watch 2 dvds and an iphone!! My brother got one and I want one!

We are not free to ask any questions if you think about your question logically, we post questions in an open forum therefore stipulations apply.
In response to the second half of your question ,I respond to interesting questions i come across whether or not my answer is interesting to the asker is a matter of personal choice .
feel free to disagree because this is the only free choice you have in here.

i'd like to think so but i am also free to strap a bomb to me and hurt people, i have opportunity as part of my free will to do absolutely anything that could be thought of, but i will never choose to ask utterly nonsense question after question nor will I ever strap a bomb to me and hurt people - and both of these for the same reason - there is a force that I call " a dim apprehension of I know not what" stopping me (Freud called this force - 'superego').

I tend to think you can ask anything you like, (in life, in general I mean) but you aren't necessarily going to get any replies or the replies you get might not be the ones you wanted. Its like being free to think what you want to, but knowing you can't expect other people to agree with you.

You are right. We are not free to ask any question. It would be impossible to conceive of every question that would interest you and it would be impossible to ever fully satisfy our curiosity.
So in answer to your question, yes we are FREE to ask any question but we are not ABLE to.
