He was a fascist dictator. Italy was under a totalitarian government dating from the 20s. In Spain, so was Franco, and we all know about Germany. I don't know of any libertarian dictators.

"Totalitarianism is a term employed by some political scientists, especially those in the field of comparative politics, to describe modern regimes in which the state regulates nearly every aspect of public and private behavior."

Mussolini was a fascist and a totalitarian. He was far from a Libertarian. "Libertarianism is a political philosophy or a family of related political philosophies based on very strong support for individual liberty."

"He established a Fascist regime that valued nationalism, militarism and anti-communism combined with strict censorship and state propaganda. Mussolini became a close ally of German dictator Adolf Hitler, whom he influenced. Mussolini entered World War II in June 1940 on the side of Nazi Germany."

I've never heard any suggestion he was a libertarian. He led a totalitarian regime that inspired Hitler.

Under Mussolini Italy was a dictatorship, with few freedoms granted by the government. It was probably not as strict a dictatorship as Hitler's, but much of that is due to the psyche of the German nation as opposed to the Italian.

Well I would call him a fascist who pursed totalitarian government so yea.

I would define it as a society where the government regulates everything, they supress open speech or speaking out against the government policy, they control the populace through propoganda and divisionist tacticts.
