I like intentionally provocative Q's like this one in philosophy if the Q was asked not to be cute or clever, but thought-provoking!

My answer is this: Many religions that believe in progressive reincarnations or the Eternal Recurrence of Life, believe that we are undergoing an evolutionary process that, metaphorically speaking, makes us seem like gods to the previous generations of human beings who lived, not by science and reason but by fear and ignorance(ie superstitions).

Becoming a god or god-like is a relative thing based on comparisons of what we know and what we can do compared to what we knew and did in the past.

BTW it is an offensive thought for some to think this way in relation to the Dieties they worship. This Q is a basic theme, with many variations, in Sci-Fi movies and novels. Remember V-ger?

Personally I think that any one who thinks they are god-like ought to read the stories in Greek Mythology,or better yet, the Ancient Greek Tragedies or some of Shakespeare's plays.

If you really think you are a God, I would recommend immediately seeing a Shrink and getting the right meds. Arrogance or Mania: neither are mentally healthy conditions. You only have to look to Bush43 to see that! LOL

It just never ends well for those intent on becoming gods! Ask Dr. Frankenstein or those of us who wished "mission-accomplished" Bush43 & Cheney would be immediately impeached!.

Added thought: The word "machine" overemphasizes the lifeless, mechanistic & Deistic (clock-maker) vision of the Universe and its Purpose.. Personally I prefer the less anal, more creative idea of an evolving, living process used by A. N. Whitehead and Henri Bergson and Plato and Nietzsche and W James.-to name but a few! I am more Heraclitian than I am Parmenidian. Although both parts like the Apollo and Dyonesian elements are parts of me!!

I really hope this is a metaphorical, philosophy Q that has nothing to do w/God per se! I'd be disappointed if it is not so!

If your definition of God is the consciousness that is behind the creation of the universe then the universe, through the intelligent life forms evolved in it. may, by having as their ultimate goal the creation pf more "baby universes", fit the definition of Gods if they so do this.

I don't think the universe is a machine but a living organism.

Good luck at becoming a god, good mental health, peace and Love!

I belive the universe could be considered a machine on some atomic scale, I don't think it produces any gods... except for the ones that man makes up in his silly little mind. so in effect: Universe makes man -> man makes god -> Yes the universe makes gods lol

The world is not a machine and I see no indication of there being any god. If there are all these gods in production then where are they? What are they dong? Are they all on strike? Or did they all get out of bed the wrong side? Or is there some sort of production line, manufacturing problem where they are all defective??? Coz they sure as hell aren't doing much good are they??? LOL

No, but I believe that God made the Universe.

i think the more important question would be: Do you believe that you are a god that the universe made?

As blasphemous as it sounds, when you consider the evolution of man from single celled organisms and look at all that we have accomplished even in this imperfect form, one can't help but wonder what our destiny is. Having been elevated above nature we effectively play God in that we have come to regulate our own environments, and even to alter the very fabric of life itself.
