Which insect would reproduce the fastest?

The ruling species in any environment is always the one at the top of the food chain. This virtually eliminates insects as possible contenders for world domination.

The most numerous, (and presumably most successful at breeding) insects, as far as I'm aware, are ants and mosquitos and common house flies.

The little ones rule this planet... insects, bacteria, nematodes, etc. Without them the world would crumble. Of course there are species within those groups that the world could survive without, but to remove them as a whole would cause more or less the end of everything. For example if all the insects in the world were to go extinct most animals (including humans) would be extinct within a year along with some plants. Within two years the remainder of the animals and plants would be gone. A few species of moss, bacteria and the like could last a few more years but they would soon follow the extinction train. Near impossible for such a thing to happen, but it shows you how all other plants and animals depend on them.

I've always heard that roaches were the insects that would survive a nuclear holocaust. I believe roaches would be the dominant of the insect species.

If insects ruled, they would not be tearing up and bombing other countries and costing thousands of live unnecessarily...just a thought
