To look one up? go to Amazon.com and query the book.

CreateSpace, which is owned by Amazon, will issue an ISBN for free. The catch is, your self-published book is only available on Amazon, and the publisher is listed as CreateSpace. You keep the rights to the content, though.

You can't. ISBN's are sold in lots of ten - to publishers only. The prefix of the number indicates the name of the publisher. I assume you self published without one? Not much you can do now. Another reason self publishing stinks.
