No, I would consider myself a bad parent if my son started taking drugs, stealing cars and getting teenage girls pregnant. If he found a pastime that used up a lot of energy like ballet (and teenagers have mountains of energy) I would be delighted he was channelling it towards something constructive. He might even make a few quid if he was any use at it.

No ..why in the world you would even think that!!
Many men dance ballet or is it the stigma that he has to be gay to be a dancer which is so untrue.

My own son while he didn't dance ballet would watch me at dance class while I was learning traditional Israeli folk dance {which I love }and then asked to learn himself and had a blast learning to do so with kids his own age at the time. So if your son wants to go into the arts and it makes him happy.. let him and be proud him and of his accomplishments.

Not at all! My 17 year old niece was awarded a scholarship to one of the best Universities in Ontario, Canada! Why? For Hockey, Goalie at that! I am so proud of her! And she is the tiniest, girly- girl that I know! Cannot wait to see her in Vancouver, 2010! Stigma, that is all, pay no attention! Good luck!

Nope I would support him like any other career. Plus Ballet is pretty strict and structured to be successful. That's a plus for me to get him into it!

No,most top class footballers incorporate ballet into their workout as it helps stretch, strengthen limbs. It also helps control balance and instills discipline.Contrary to popular belief it is a hard discipline to master and takes a real man to be able to perform ballet moves.

no not really, I would support them whatever they chose to do. Its not going to happen though. I have one in the Navy (leaving January) and one is a hardcore/hardstyle DJ. the nearest they get to dancing is when they've had a few pints :-)

No. I'd feel unsuccessful if he wanted to do Nothing.

No - but then again he isn't exposed to it much so he is unlikely to want to do it unless he watches the film Billy Elliott!
