Well, if you mean coastal redwoods- the best are in northern California near the coast up near Eureka and Crescent City. Humboldt Redwoods state park and Prairie Creek Redwoods state park were my personal favorites, there is also the redwood national park and Del Norte and Jebediah Smith state park.
These are all at least 4 or 5 hours from SF if I recall. Kinda in the boonies
Muir Woods is much smaller, but still awesome and very close to San Francisco; Big Bend state park is another more southern option.
There are also Giant Sequoias, which are shorter but more massive and longer lived, and they grow in the Sierras- try Sequoia National Park or Mariposa grove in Yosemite.
