We are exposing groups of Christian Fundamentalists who sell literature advocating hitting their children with branches, plastic plumbing piping, paddles and advocate whipping 7 month old babies if they are irritable. Can anyone tell where it says to do this in the bible. http://childabuseaustralia.wordpress.com/

It does say in the old testament that "If you spare the rod, you spoil the child"

Yeah, it does say spare the rod and spoil the child, and people do take it to mean that beating kids is OK, but elsewhere it talks about the rod of discipline. Discipline, as we know, does not involve beating. I see nothing wrong in smacking if it is needed, but the use of objects as mentioned in the question cannot be right. Jesus did say "let the little children come to me, for of such is the kingdom of God."
I am a committed Christian myself, and am horrified at the thought that this could be happening.

what? it does NOT say ANYWHERE to hit children physically. you are supposed to discipline them properly, like speak to them;communicate, and other things, not physically hitting them. forgot what part of the bible that was, but trust me, it does NOT say to hit them.
