Money to the salvation army bell ringers - toys for tots - contact local Childrens Services and ask them about donating and what they need. Can always give to the Battered Womens Shelter too. They are usually the ones that leave in the middle of the night with nothing to get away from abusive spouses and do not have much around the holidays.

Take up money donations and food for their holiday meal and gifts. I love helping people who are less fortunate. That is a gift in itself. There are many organizations who do this that you can donate to.

in my city, there's an annual sock drive. you can drop off a bunch of new socks at fire stations, and they'll distribute them to the homeless and shelters.

i also donate to food banks, the starbucks litteracy baskets, and monetary donations to favourite local charity.

i think its important to donate locally at this time of year. we tend to forget about the needs of people in our own backyard during the rest of the year when there's a lot of attention paid to BIG causes (ie. aids, darfur, cancer, natural disasters).
