easy-to-fire, easy-to-aim weapons with triggers. in other words: GUNS. muskets, rifles, and finally assaut weapons like AK-47s and M16s. crossbows ushered out the era of expert archers that took years to train and made it a lot easier to kill someone from a distance.

I believe it has roots in china and was developed, but did not become a mainstream european weapon untill the 1200's...though there were variants throughtout
