I try to do the right thing. I help others but I feel that Karma has come in to my life and smacked me right in the face for some reason. Maybe it is just life but with so many things going in disarray, I can't help but feel I have done something in the past for this all to be happening.

ever watch the show My Name is Earl, there is a good sign of Karma. He wins the lottery, but loses it for all the bad things he has done to people in his life. So in order to be able to keep it he has to go and make it up to those people.

I don't believe in it regarding other lives.
However, if you did something bad earlier in life, that can come back to haunt you later.
Some people use the idea of Karma (from past lives) to avoid blaming themselves or avoid taking a cold hard look at their own lives today. This way they can avoid taking responsibility for their own lives.
Example, it was Karma or fate I did not get that job.
Reality: They were late to the Interview and the job went to someone else. They were late because they left late, and not because of Karma or fate

Your present life is your present karma caused from a previous life.
It gives you obstacles and lessons to learn in this life. How you handle them develops karma in your next life. If you are good, the more good karma in the bank also.
Your next life becomes easier and you're on your way to enlightenment.

My sister recently had a round of Karma. She's a deer hunter. We have a cousin who owns some property in the country. She also knows that her son (who she's not getting along with) and a local law enforcement officer also hunt in those woods. So she went to the property owner and got permission from him to be the ONLY one to hunt in those woods. She even had paperwork drawn up for it, and she could get anyone else arrested for trespassing.
So deer season came around, and she's got the whole woods to herself for 2 weeks. That just seemed to coincide with the local power company's tree-trimming around the power lines. The chain saws and wood chippers scared away all the deer.

The good feeling of helping others should be your good karma. When you do charitable deeds, especially those that are done without anyone knowing you did them will reap you the largest rewards, in this world and beyond. People who do something right, and then point to themselves so others can recognize them, are not charitable whatsoever.

the most common example that i have seen is with people who talk about other peoples' kids and later their own kids develope that certain habbit/problem!
but in ur case ....
sometimes things go wrong not becouse u have done bad things but maybe coz u'r doing something wrong like taking a wrong decision or making a wrong choice look for it coz the day u find it and correct it will be ur last day of difficulties!
