Jerry Garcia.

My logic? Most of the others that fit this category would either have ended as burnt out into creepy recluses (Cobain, Morrison) or endlessly tried to stay current and become just sad elder statesmen of rock like Elvis, LAs Vegas embarrassments

Garcia on the other hand, being around for a 30 year career knew what he was there to do and did it.

Elvis is missed by people who weren't even born when he died. He's the king, baby. I don't personally think his music was so great, but he developed a whole persona (not to mention popularizing a whole genre of music) that makes him stand out. Cobain is missed because we grew up listening to Nirvana, but I can't see him having Elvis's iconic status 30 years from now.

tie - 3 way
george harrison
roy orbison
del shannon
i'd love to hear more travelling wilbury's stuff. they were amazing. when roy died, del was asked to join up but committed suicide months later. even if roy had not passed, del in the band would have been sweet.
but volume 3 only had, harrison, lynne, petty and dylan. when george died in '01, that was it for the wilbury's.
alot of people would say lennon and harrison, as to have a beatles reunion. but i say. they were so perfect, just let it be. they gave the world 7 great years of music. there was nothing more to accomplish. if reunited, they would have had to play 80,000 seat stadiums, which they hated. so many people would have put so much pressure on them to keep playing more shows, making more records, they would have went nuts. they all had solo careers, all were great. the beatles could have never reunited.
