when I backspace or try to erase what I wrote, a line gets drawn across the letters, but they do not actually disappear
I have no clue what happened?

ya you are going to have to let us know what program you were using. it could be anything.
just shut the program down and restart.

if you were using MS Word, then you might have accidentally turned on "Track Changes". just click Tools
Track Changes
Accept Change
that will turn it from red to black.

If you are using a word processing program like MS Office, I would assume you had accidently changed the coloring font of all the words.
To change it back goto
1. On the top of the page goto "Format", then click on "Font".
2. In the Fonts tab, goto where it says Font Color, select the arrow next to it and either select black or automatic.
This should default it back to black.
