With my hot cereal, I want lots of butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and a little bit of milk. Sometimes I even add maple syrup with all the above too. If I have any fruit in it at all, it will be diced peaches, no big pieces, maybe the size of a dime or smaller.

It's not so much what I put on top, but inside it while cooking.
If I'm having cooked oatmeal, or Malt O Meal, or Cream of
Wheat, I will often add raisens or sliced canned peaches
diced up, or sliced bananas. Then I will put cinnamon on top
(it's very good for you) and pat of butter and sugar substitute
since I have to limit my sugar now. Actually the butter tastes
the best cooked into the oatmeal with the milk added after.
My late mother in law showed me that creamy oatmeal is the
best. And now I prefer to make mine that way too. I add the
water first and then the oatmeal without waiting for the water
to boil. I keep stirring as the water and oats heat and then add
the butter pat and keep stirring. Turn the burner down, and then a splash of milk and continue stirring. Sometimes I even add the cinnamon while it's cooking too. Then I pour into a bowl and top it with the sweetner, since it breaks down in cooking. If I still used sugar I'd also add it while stirring after the milk. Add a couple pieces of buttered toast and you've got a rib sticking breakfast that will last you til lunchtime. There is protein in oatmeal that will last you longer than the
wheat cereals. Bet, you didn't know that, did you?

I use Coach's Oats, which are fantastic, and then add a bit of brown sugar-Splenda with a dash of milk. Yummy. I used to add raisins, but haven't bought any for a long while. Thanks for reminding me. Oh, and I sometimes cut up an apple, and when microwaving the oatmeal, add the apple. Delicious.

Hmms, depending on how old are you, and of course to your own liking :D
Kids: You may want to try honey and milk. As not many children love eating fruits, and it may be too big a piece for them, try honey. It will sweeten up the dull oatmeal and kids will love it! And kids that are developing needs milk for calcium for strong healthy bones and teeths :D
Teens: You may want to try honey, fruits, biscuit crumbs, milk and brown sugar. It adds flavour to the dull oatmeal and fruits are healthy choices. Most teens will be in the slimming down project and fruits are good options for them to slim down and stay healther. I think you may want to try strawberry or banana. They taste good!
Adults: Well, adults ain't that picky so I suggest something they like. But they would like to add milk as milk have calcium that prevent weak bones in their old age.
Senior Citizens: Mashed-up bananas, or any mashed-up fruits. Milk, Condensed Milk. This will make it easier for them to chew and milk is good for bones. Condensed Milk is to sweeten it up.
I hope this will help :D
